Lactobacillus plantarum is a homofermentative fermented, gram-positive-aerotolerant bacteria. Although it can grow up at 15ºC, its optimized growth temperature is 30-35ºC. As a typical Lactic Acid Bacteria, its metabolism mechanism can produce large amounts of lactic acid, acetic acid, lactobacilli etc. It has the ability to destroy pathogens, but also to preserve critical nutrients, vitamins. It also has a unique ability to consume oxygen, ultimately as the antioxidants. It can also produce lysine (a beneficial amino-acid), to deliver therapeutic compounds and proteins to the body etc.

Lactobacillus plantarum is a beneficial bacteria that is found in natural environments, plant materials, as well as in the gastro-intestinal tract of humans and animals, human saliva etc. Due to its excellent ability to produce large amounts of lactic acid quickly and grow at flexible temperatures ranging from 15 to 42ºC, Lactobacillus plantarum is widely used in fermented foods, feeds, environment protectives, as well as in therapeutic health products for human use.
